James Baldwin
 
Painting James Baldwin was truly a labor of love. From a literary perspective, he's one of my fathers, one of the people who birthed me into my maturity, and to whom I owe a great debt gratitude. I spent 136 hours on this canvas, a little less time than the others--not because it was easier but because I knew exactly what to do. James Baldwin is my hero, my truth, and I stand right now on his  shoulders as I reach to take hold of the mountain before me.
