Keith LaMar/Bomani's Reflection:

Self-Portrait

It wasn't my idea to paint myself, and it took me a few years to finally agree to do it. A painful process!  I've spent a lot of time with myself, searching and probing the inner workings of my heart and mind, trying to find my center, in an effort to being forth the best in me. And that's what was on my mind when I was pursuing this canvas. It's not perfect, and neither am I, but I think it comes close to capturing my essence. . . I think (smile). Obviously, it's not meant to be an actual depiction (my skin is not layered as such), but the layers are meant to tell the story about how much I've worked on myself, going over and over and over all the lessons that I've learned (over and over). I can see myself in the portrait, the intensity in my eyes--that's me. I'm so serious about my life, and I'm so focused on my fight. But if you zoom in on the right-hand side, you'll notice the word LOVE buried there; and that's me, too! It's All Love to me, all of it;  everything I do and am--it's all love! I spent 287 hours on myself, and it was agonizing (to say the least), similar to the journey I've been on. And that's what makes it beautiful!

Long live Keith LaMar!
